In this blog post, we’ll take a look at where Taylor Guitars are made. We’ll also dispel some of the myths surrounding the company’s manufacturing process.

The United States

Taylor Guitars is an American guitar manufacturer based in El Cajon, California and is the #1 guitar brand in the United States. The company was founded in 1974 by Bob Taylor and Kurt Listug.

El Cajon, California – The primary Taylor factory

Taylor Guitars is an American guitar manufacturer based in El Cajon, California and is the #1 manufacturer of acoustic guitars in the United States. They specialize in acoustic guitars and electric guitars.

The company was founded in 1974 by Bob Taylor and Kurt Listug. Initially, they focused on building high-quality acoustic guitars. In 1984, they began production of their first original electric guitar, the Baby Taylor.

Today, Taylor Guitars offers a wide range of acoustic and electric guitars, as well as basses, mandolins, and ukuleles. They are one of the most popular brands among professional guitarists due to their quality craftsmanship and innovative designs.

In addition to their primary factory in El Cajon, California, Taylor Guitars also has a factory in Tecate, Mexico and a sister company, Santa Cruz Guitar Company, located in Santa Cruz, California.

Tecate, Baja California, Mexico – A small number of entry-level guitars are made here

Located in Tecate, Baja California, Mexico – just outside of San Diego – a small number of our entry-level guitars are made here. Many of the workers in our Mexican plant have been building Taylor guitars for more than a decade, and their experience and skill are evident in the instruments they create.

The Baja plant enables us to produce an affordable instrument without sacrificing quality or attention to detail. Our luthiers in Tecate take great pride in their work, and it shows in the guitars they make.

If you’re looking for a great-playing and great-sounding guitar that won’t break the bank, one of our Mexican-built instruments might be the perfect fit for you.

China

In the 1990s, Taylor Guitars began looking for ways to reduce costs and found that one way to do this was to have some of their guitars made in China. At first, only a few models were made in China and shipped to the US for final assembly and quality control, but eventually, more and more models were made in China. Today, most of the entry-level and mid-priced Taylor Guitars are made in China.

Tianjin – A small number of entry-level guitars are made here

Though the factory is not open to the public, we have been able to gather a fair amount of information about it. The factory is located in Tianjin, which is one of China’s four municipalities. This factory employs about 200 workers and produces a small number of entry-level guitars.

The guitars produced here are lower in quality than those produced at Taylor’s other factories. This is likely due to the fact that Tianjin is not as developed as other areas of China, and therefore does not have access to the same level of skilled labor or materials.

The factory does have some modern equipment, but it is not on par with the level of technology at Taylor’s other factories. For example, the woodworking machines are not as precise, and the guitar necks are hand-carved instead of being machined.

Despite the lower quality of the guitars produced at this factory, they are still playable and can be a good option for beginners who are just starting out. If you’re considering purchasing a guitar made at the Tianjin factory, be sure to try it out first to see if it meets your needs.

Indonesia

Taylor Guitars is an American guitar manufacturer based in El Cajon, California and is the #1 manufacturer of acoustic guitars in the United States. They are one of the largest guitar companies in the world and have over 900 employees. Taylor Guitars was founded in 1974 by Bob Taylor and Kurt Listug.

Bubut, Central Java – A small number of mid-range and high-end guitars are made here

Bubut is a small town located in Central Java, Indonesia. It is best known for being home to a small number of factories that produce mid-range and high-end acoustic guitars for companies such as Taylor Guitars. While the majority of Taylor’s guitar production takes place at their factory in El Cajon, California, a small number of their higher-end models are still made in Bubut.

The Bubut factory first opened its doors in 2006, and has since become an important part of Taylor’s guitar manufacturing process. In addition to housing some of the most skilled luthiers in the world, the Bubut factory is also home to a state-of-the-art finish room where each guitar is hand- sprayed with a nitrocellulose lacquer. This attention to detail ensures that each and every Taylor guitar made in Bubut meets the company’s high standards for quality and playability.

If you’re in the market for a high-end acoustic guitar, there’s a good chance that one of the models made at the Taylor Guitar factory in Bubut, Indonesia will be able to meet your needs.

Other

Taylor Guitars are made in two different factories. The first factory is located in El Cajon, California and the second factory is located in Tecate, Mexico. Both factories use the same method of construction, but the materials used are different. The California factory uses a variety of different woods, including Sitka spruce, maple, and mahogany. The Mexican factory uses mostly mahogany.

A small number of guitars are made in other countries on a contract basis, but the vast majority of Taylor guitars are made in the USA, China, and Indonesia.

In recent years, Taylor has shifted more of its production to the overseas factories to keep up with increasing demand, but the majority of their guitars are still made in the USA. The California factory is where the high-end Custom Shop models are made, as well as a small number of premium acoustic guitars. The majority of the mass-produced Taylor acoustic guitars are made in either China or Indonesia.

Many guitar manufacturers have shifted at least some of their production to Asia in recent years in order to save on labor costs, but Taylor has been one of the few companies to maintain a significant presence in the US. Other major guitar brands that are still made in America include Gibson, Fender, and PRS.
