He also used Edie for the majority of Foo Fighters’ first album. Since then, she has been retired from touring duties but can still be seen in the guitar case when Grohl is in his studio.
Fender Stratocaster (Lendy)
Lendy is a ’62 reissue Stratocaster that was used during the recording of Foo Fighters’ self-titled debut album. It can be seen extensively in the “Big Me” music video and has also been used on various other occasions, such as when Grohl recorded a take of “Everlong” for MTV Unplugged in 1995.
Gibson ES-335 Dot (Sweetwater)
Grohl bought this semi-hollowbody guitar, which is finished in Pelham Blue, around 1994 and it quickly became his main guitar for Nirvana’s live shows. It can be seen extensively in their live performance video Live at Reading and was also used during rehearsals for their MTV Unplugged set, although it wasn’t used on the actual TV show. Sweetwater can also be heard on Foo Fighters’ second album The Colour and the Shape.
Gibson Firebird VII (birdcage)
This rare guitar was given to Grohl by Gibson after he mentioned in an interview that Firebirds were his favorite Gibson model. He used it extensively during the making of Foo Fighters’ fourth album One by One, including on the lead single “All My Life.” Birdcage has also been used live on a few occasions, such as when Grohl played with Queens of the Stone Age at Madison Square Garden in 2002.
